Rwanda joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Tourism on 27/09/201, by inaugurating the Kirenge Cultural Tourism Centre. It is located in Rusiga Sector, Rulindo District in the North of Rwanda.
It was the Minister of Sport and Culture, Mrs. Julienne Uwacu who proceeded to the inauguration of this center by cutting the ribbon in front of thousands of residents of this locality.
Tourism is one of the country’s key sectors that bring a lot of foreign currency into the state coffers. “Cultural Tourism will help us learn about our history and our culture. It will complement gorilla tourism and national parks to generate more revenue,” Minister Uwacu said.
Visitors learn the art of creating handicrafts and savor the cultural dances performed by artists. It is we Rwandans who must be the best ambassadors of our cultural values of which we are also very proud,” Uwacu suggested.
It is in Kirenge, a place known by “the foot of King Ruganzu”, embedded in a rock. This King is known for his brilliant actions during the expansion of the Kingdom of Rwanda.
But this stone is carefully preserved at the National Museum of Huye in the south of the country. This stone was quietly sheltered from extremist destroyers by Abbot Jean-Baptiste Rugengamazi during Rwanda’s troubled post-independence era.
