Nyamasheke memorial site under reconstruction after recent ruins

After heavy rains that contained storms destroyed the memorial site for 1994 genocide against Tutsi in Gikuyu village, Ninzi cell in Kagano sector in Nyamasheke district, reconstruction process is under way.

Supervisors of the reconstructions are Nyamasheke district authorities according to Marie Noella Nyirahabimana the officer in charge of culture, youth and sports in the district.

Reconstructing this genocide memorial site will be worth Rwf1.5 million which was agreed upon by the district and Kagano sector after conducting a study on this memorial site.

This memorial site was destroyed during the night of the 18th.Sept.2012 after being hit by a nearby tree with one part of the roof being completely destroyed.
